Grand Theft Auto San Andreas is under investigation from the ESRB after claims the game contains a pornographic sex game.
Following recent news that San Andreas contains a hidden sex game that can be accessed by PC users, it would seem that the ESRB are to investigate the issue. Californian assemblyman Leland Yee has slammed the ESRB claiming they have failed parents by putting their children at risk to this pornographic material.
"Once again, the ESRB has failed our parents," Yee enraged. "This particular game has been known to include extremely heinous acts of violence, and now it has been uncovered that the game also includes explicit sexual scenes that are inappropriate for our children."
AdvertisementYee has a history of similar accusations, which have usually led nowhere, but it appears this time the ESRB were listening. The "Hot Coffee" mod which allows PC gamers to access the pornographic mini game has resulted in the ESRB launching an investigation into GTA San Andreas to decide if the title's rating needs to be reassessed.
"The integrity of the ESRB rating system is founded on the trust of consumers who increasingly depend on it to provide complete and accurate information about what's in a game," ESRB president Patricia Vance explained.
"If after a thorough and objective investigation of all the relevant facts surrounding this modification, we determine a violation of our rules has occurred, we will take appropriate action," she concluded. Such actions could include raising the rating of the game to the Adults Only rating, usually restricted to material containing explicitly pornographic content. Such a rating would mean a vast number of major retailers would be unable to sell the game.
Rockstar are aware of ESRB's investigation and have said they are "complying fully with their enquiries", but according to the US website Gamespot, Rockstar has denied the sex games even exist on the game disc. We will have to wait and see what the investigation finds but it would seem unlikely the game will receive an Adults Only rating even if the said pornographic content is on the game disc, as users must modify the game to access it.
