Stardock Entertainment has announced plans to extend the feature set of Galactic Civilizations II: Dark Avatar.
Dark Avatar is the planned expansion to the acclaimed Galactic Civilizations II: Dread Lords and was expected to arrive towards the end of the year. The game's developer has decided that more content needs to be added to the expansion so has made the decision to delay its release until February 2007.
"As our players submitted suggestions for new features, we realized that we didn't want to have to wait until some future sequel to implement these awesome ideas," said Brad Wardell, Product Manager of Galactic Civilizations II. "So you could say that this expansion - while not quite a sequel - goes far beyond what a usual expansion pack would provide."
The Dark Avatar expansion was originally intended to include new units, new maps, a new story-based campaign, user-created opponents, an epic generator, espionage agents, asteroid fields, new diplomatic treaties, and unique planet environments. The decision to further increase the content of the expansion now means players will also get a streamlined technology tree, Mega Events, super abilities that are unique to each civilization, a visual makeover, more advanced opponent-design features and more.
Obviously the only disappointing thing to fans is that the expansion will no longer be available this year. To sooth the pain of having to wait a few extra months, Stardock has announced a beta program scheduled to start in November for users who pre-order the game.
Galactic Civilizations II: Dark Avatar will be available exclusively from GalCiv2.com, but will also be released as part of Galactic Civilizations II: Gold Edition (Dread Lords and Dark Avatar) at retail.
