football manager -

Football Manager 2014 has set a new record of 16 consecutive weeks as the UK's best-selling PC game, reports MCV.

The Sports Interactive and SEGA management sim is now within touching distance of also bettering the current record of 21 weeks in total at No.1 for a PC game.

Contrary to what the chart success would have you believe, FM14 sales are actually down compared to what FM13 managed in the same time last year, which has been partially attributed to piracy.

"We are slightly lower this year than we were at this time last year. Some of that has moved to digital, but also we unfortunately got cracked a lot earlier this year than last year, so we've lost some sales there," said Miles Jacobson, studio director at Sports Interactive.

"Last year with Football Manager 2013 we were five months uncracked and ended up the year 22 per cent up," he added. "This year we are down compared to that but up versus Football Manager 2012. We were cracked within a week and a half this time, which is a normal cracking time. It's disappointing, but such is life, we were always going to get cracked, it was just a matter of when."

Jacobson concluded that the success of FM 2013 was "a bit of anomaly".
