The truth is this game is ultimately unfulfilling and quite unrealistic. Apparently random teams always win the league - one season it's Charlton, the next it's man Ure, then it's Spurs. How good the actual team is seems to be largely irrelevant and a hidden 'lucky factor' is generated for every team each seasn, which dictates the outcomes, irrespective of what the manager does. Quite odd and utterly silly really.
Secondly, don't waste your money on a game RIDDLED with bugs. Rooney cannot play for England ever due to a bug, the game crashes sometimes due to a bus, training doesn't actually work (!) due to a bug. Pathetic, frankly.
Finally, the games themselves are superb to watch and much more rewarding, the database is perhaps better and most of the new features (except perhaps the silly team talk facility) work well BUT ultimately the unrealistic team performances, bugs and lack of consistency ruin the game long-term - the reviews all miss this point because the reviewers don't even bother playing the game long-term.
some of the ideas deserve 8/10
the actual game is 6/10 for the first season and 1/10 thereafter - why play a game where luck not skill dictates results and the bugs make it unplayable? Do yourself a favour and buy a monopoly board instead.

I'm not even sure I'll borhter in 2008 and I suspect there are many who feel the same way. There's no excuse for putting out a game riddled with bugs that render it almost unplayable, nor for creating such an unrealistic gameplay programme.
They filled it with lots of twiddly bits and nice ideas and got the core game experience completely wrong!
DO NOT BUY! Stick with FM 2006, which is infinitely more realistic and enjoyable.
