David Moyes will be a successful replacement for Sir Alex Ferguson at Manchester United, winning two trophies in his first year, a Football Manager 2013 simulation has predicted.
Manchester United will finish next season as the Premier League champions – finishing above a Mourinho managed Chelsea – and will lift the FA Cup trophy after beating Stoke in the final.
In the transfer market Moyes brought Leighton Baines over from Everton for £19 million, moving on Anderson to Juventus for £7 million. The Rooney Van Persie partnership secured 40 goals in all competitions.
It also turns out that Moyes may well be the best man for the job, with other potential managers performing less well in their debut seasons in charge. Mourinho finished the season trophyless, Jurgen Klopp was sacked in mid-January, and United favourite Ole Gunnar Solskjaer beat Swansea in the FA Cup Final, but failed in the Premier League defence.
