Final Fantasy XI News

Square Enix has announced the Final Fantasy XI Starter Pack for Windows.

Getting into the online world of Final Fantasy XI now couldn't be cheaper with the imminent release of the Final Fantasy XI Starter Pack for Windows. £4.99 will buy gamers the PlayOnline Viewer, Tetra Master online card game and the original Final Fantasy XI software. The price also included one month's access to the online world.

Final Fantasy XI currently boasts more than 500,000 active players and over the past few years has seen several expansion packs which have grown the size of the game world. A host of gameplay tweaks have also been implemented, designed to make the game more appealing to new players.

Final Fantasy XI is also available for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 2 (US and Japan only).

I played WoW for 6 months and FFXI for 3 years. FFXI is pretty tough, in terms of progress I didn't get close to endgame on FFXI, whereas with WoW I was at the 'endless instances' phase.

However if you do a little digging around you'll discover that FFXI has a great deal of depth to it and is well worth pursuing. I'd guess 50% of people give up on it before they hit level 30, but like all FF games if you persevere it really opens up at higher levels.

The biggest differences between the two are that FFXI requires parties practically all the time from level 10 onwards, and it takes about 5 times longer to get anything done.

But for £4.99 including a free month? Bargain.
