Bethesda says no plans to patch in functionality at this time.

One of the only major criticisms made of Bethesda's quite wonderful Fallout 3 was the inability to continue adventuring once the game's main quest had been completed, something which had been possible in the two previous Fallout outings.

Thankfully, new DLC on the way to Xbox 360 and PC will make this possible, but what of the PS3 version which isn't included in the DLC plans?

MTV Multiplayer got in touch with Fallout 3 executive producer Todd Howard to get the answer and it's not looking good for PS3 gamers.

"Not at this time, no," said Howard when asked about adding post-ending adventuring to the PS3 game.

I think Bethesda did not want to code the patch to the PS3, while the code for the 360 and the PC are very close. Just a money and time decision I suspect.

Why would anybody want to continue post-game anyway? You can always just reload your save before the end to finish any outstanding quests.

It does seem harsh on the PS3 owners, and sadly I can only see more of this in the future. MS are throwing boatloads of cash at developers to secure exclusive DLC, which in turn will make people even more reluctant to buy the PS3 version of games, which will result in more MS sales, leading to more cash to throw at developers, etc.

SONY need to plug this potential customer leak somehow.
