Microsoft has confirmed that Fallout 3 will be the first title to offer DLC through the newly announced Games for Windows LIVE Marketplace.

Pete Hines, vice president of public relations and marketing for Bethesda Softworks commented: "Games for Windows LIVE helps us expand the Fallout 3 universe and bring the full experience directly to gamers. Through the Marketplace we now have a no-nonsense way to deliver updates and great downloadable content. It's really a complete package, and a great fit for Fallout 3."

Other titles, both current and coming soon, that offer support for Games for Windows LIVE include Grand Theft Auto IV, Quantum of Solace, Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War II, Red Faction: Guerrilla and Battlestations: Pacific.

Xbox live rules the console world, what else is there, lol. Thats the problem, for console it is fine, there is nothing else, but on PC there are already better services, and doing DLC like this will all but kill any mod support for games, a big fail right there, not like DLC up to this point has been worth paying for. PC and Console are 2 totally different markets, PC can get all the benefits from live from the Net or other services, but we don't have to be forced to use services. Live will force users to use its service. epic fail.

I can't wait to find out what the Fallout 3 DLC is. I'm thinking this revamp of Games for Windows could be one of the reasons why GTAIV DLC has been so long coming, maybe it's completely unrelated.

Overall this seems like one of the many stages Microsoft are progressing through in their move towards electronic distribution of entertainment, I expect traditional retailers will be keeping a close eye on how things develop from here in terms of how it's going to affect second hand markets and the usual distribution models.

Pathetic, MS trying to force people to use their service, and killing mods the same time, try and get PC users to pay for crap DLC. A little lat to the game as usual MS. Steam is way better and has doen this for years.
