Developers must keep quality up, says SOE.

EverQuest II will be going fully free-to-play this December. SOE's Dave Georgeson explained the company wants to be at the forefront of studios that work under the free-to-play model.

"We really like to give players lots of ways to pick how they want to play or pay," he told MMORPG.com.

"If developers don't keep quality up, they don't make a dime."

Previously EverQuest II incorporated aspects of free-to-play by setting up specific servers for non-subscribing users. This is the first time the game has ever fully embraced the new business model.

OOooooooooh. EQ2 shoulda coulda woulda been what WoW is and more if they'd decided to make it more newbie-friendly. One of my favouraite MMOs, when I played them that is. I need to see HOW free to play it is first as I actually have a retail copy of the game and paid a sub for a long time, I dont have the setup or dedication to play an MMO properly to justify a sub any more though.
