Sony Online Entertainment has warned users of a crackdown on players who use exploits in MMO EverQuest.

Writing on the official forum, SOE stated it has "quietly invested significant behind the scenes effort" and has told cheating players to "take heed and reform/ There will be no second chances."

The MMO's community manager stated: "Cheating has become a serious concern to our EQ player base this past year. Exploits and hacks strike at the very heart of a game, creating deep resentment in the community as selfish players gain benefit at the expense of their honest fellows. You’ve let us know your thoughts, and we have taken action.

"Players who partake in cheating are hereby put on notice: stop now. This isn't an idle warning. We have quietly invested significant behind the scenes effort into detecting cheaters quickly and accurately. The vast majority of players enjoy the game on a fair and even playing field. Those who gain unfair advantage over others will not be tolerated."

EverQuest was originally released in 1999. Its 18th expansion, EverQuest: Veil of Alaris, was released in November 2011.

SOE has hired a 3rd party in TX to "inspect logs" and has now removed an estimated 4000 players, many of whom, even SOE has admitted "may have not committed any errors" and have been suspended for no reason whatsoever....there have been over 3 waves of suspensions and bans AFTER this "warning" with many players who stopped "cheating" and are still getting removed from game for "violations" that have supposedly occurred MANY months before the "warning" in game was given.

These players who have received suspensions/ banns are being given "NO REASON AT THIS TIME" why they have been punished. Sony refuses to comment on what your "violations" were.

IF you are a Everquest player, NOW is the time to GET OUT of this Poorly managed game that has been a subscription based and that now is reverting into "BUY IT NOW" button game - all over your UI screen, for options that were posted as "INCLUDED" within the recently released $40 expansion.

GET OUT NOW....SOE is ripping people off and booting innocent players in order to make EQ into a PAY PER PLAY WHILE YOU PAY A SUBSCRIPTION....its the worst player abuse that has been seen in MMORPG games to DATE...P.S. If you purchase any "STATION CASH" ,and get banned regardless of you guilt, they will NOT refund any of your money.

My 4 accounts have not been suspended or banned, but many players who i know personally have had toons removed, only too receive NO email or explanation why.

SOE is not doing this investigation, some other entity is arbitrarily telling SOE who is assumes is "cheating" and its running AMOK. STOP supporting SOE and its personal info compromising, consumer abusing practices.

Their first defence: Who, me?

The second: Everyone else is doing it!
