Tens of millions will join the New Eden universe, says Reid.

EVE Online could be the biggest game in the world this year, according to CCP's new chief marketing officer David Reid.

Speaking in an interview with TenTonHammer, Reid asserted that DUST will bring "tens of millions of people that play shooters on PSN into the New Eden universe," while stating that "EVE could be the biggest game in the world at the end of 2012".

He added that EVE Online has been the only game in the West to see continuous growth year after year.

This is an untimely remark, after news was made public recently that the MMO may have lost its record of subscription growth this year in response to last year's development controversies.

Bless, the new guy is talking nonsense. Unfortunately after last year's drama it's going to be difficult to get the community back on side with big, and frankly baffling statements like this.

Not trying to generalise console players here, but even if DUST do well it won't generate that much extra interest in EVE Online - not unless they bring EVE Online to the consoles, and I know that won't be happening any time soon. It's just not the type of game that the average PSN user would play.

I don't know, the game universe does have interesting lore behind it, and the premise is interesting, but EVE Online have very particular players. If anything I'd say DUST's just gonna alienate some of EVE's more regular players.

I predict DUST will have a hard time on the console too, especially in the long run, since console games don't generally have very long life cycles, and DUST was designed to coexist with EVE Online way into the future...
