A demo of Paradox Interactive's upcoming PC strategy title Europa Universalis III is now available.
Ahead of the game's February 2 release here in the UK, a playable demo has been released, giving fans of the series a chance to try out some single-player action. Coming in at 127 MB you'll get to play through select tutorial chapters and take control of all the Western nations from 1492 to 1520.
In the full game players will take control of a nation, from a selection of 250, and then transform them into a global empire, using their skills in exploration, trade, warfare and diplomacy.

Problems in the demo start with the tutorial which describes but does noi allow one to practice. Bad teaching technique! While the style of printing makes the small font used very difficult to read. More consideration should be given to those with less than perfect sight!
Finally playing the game allows one to change a vast array of parameters, in itself an excellent feature, but nothing seems to happen. I have seen my neighbours using a crane and some soldiers marching, but nothing more in some hours of play. It is just too SLOW, suggesting that the programmers are very satisfied with their display of technical skill, but have forgotten that the real purpose of a game is ENTERTAINMENT.
No thus demo has shown me it is not worth my while to invest in the full game.
