Doom 3 source code release imminent

The source code for Doom 3 will soon be released into the wild, id Software co-founder John Carmack has said. Id confirmed the source code release back at QuakeCon earlier this year.

It's now just a matter of the final legal checks before developers can get to dig into the code.

"Doom 3 source is packaged and tested, we are waiting on final lawyer clearance for release," Carmack wrote on Twitter yesterday.

Doom 3's source code release follows several code releases including Return to Castle Wolfenstein and Quake 3.
