A round-up of the juiciest rumours being talked about across the internet.
Welcome to the Rumour mill, VideoGamer.com's run-down of the big rumours currently doing the rounds in the video game industry. Every week we'll hunt down the juiciest stories and give our opinion on how legit they are. So, whether you want the ridiculous or the plausible, read on.
Turok dev working on Oblivion-like RPG
The Rumour: Propaganda Games is moving away from Turok for one of its future titles. It's working on a multi-format action RPG that is said to take inspiration from Bethesda's hugely successful Oblivion.
Verdict: We can't ignore the latest from Surfer Girl when looking at the latest rumours, and this one's looking pretty likely. The Propaganda Games website has a job listing for a Lead Quest Designer, with one of its requirements being "experience in RPG and/or Action Adventure genres". That pretty much confirms this one to be true.
Plausibility rating: 5/5
Project Offset now PC exclusive
The Rumour The highly secretive title is now coming exclusively to PC thanks to Intel's purchase of the development team.
Verdict: Confirmation of platforms isn't the only thing that's been secretive in this project, with little being known on the game itself. It does seem that console owners won't be seeing the game any time soon though, with Remi Arnaud, Senior Graphics Architect and Manager of the Game Engine Technology team at Intel having this to say about cross-platform development.
"We're not limited by the issues most developers have to deal with. As a game developer, you have to sell your game on the PS3, you have to sell it on the Xbox, because that's where the money is. That means you're limited because those platforms are old now. And so, what's coming out now is brand-new and so much better and all kinds of things that are not possible if you have to include cross-platform into your roadmap..."
Sounds like it's coming exclusively to PC then.
Plausibility rating: 5/5
PlayStation Mag coming to PSN
Rumour: QORE will bring PSN users all they need to know about games heading to PlayStation systems.
Verdict: Sony Computer Entertainment America has filed a trademark for the name QORE, and the listing suggests that it isn't a new game, but in fact a new digital magazine. The listing reads: "COMPUTER SERVICES, NAMELY, PROVIDING INTERACTIVE ONLINE MAGAZINE AND ENTERTAINMENT SERVICES IN THE FIELD OF VIDEO GAMES." It looks pretty clear cut, but as with many things there's a chance it might never see the light of day. If and when it does launch hopefully it won't be restricted to the US PSN.
Plausibility rating: 4/5
Relic working on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC action game
Rumour: Dawn of War and Company of Heroes dev is currently working on a new action game for all next-gen formats.
Verdict: This one's a dead cert. A quick look at the official Relic website reveals a whole string of jobs for the new title. Specifics aren't known, but the ads state the game is an "exciting new action/adventure game for X360, PS3, and PC. " They also state that "Experience with FPS or other action combat titles" would be an added asset for candidates. It was rumoured a few months back that THQ is working on a new action game in the Warhammer 40K universe, so could this be it?
Plausibility rating: 5/5
