Dark Souls director Hidetaka Miyazaki has apologised to console owners, following the announcement that Namco has no current plans to bring the game’s new PC content to PS3 and Xbox 360.

From August 24 PC gamers will be able to play Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition – a port that also includes several new areas to explore. But for the time being, it looks as if console gamers will have to go without this extra content.

“It’s completely understandable that people who bought the original console version have those questions [about DLC],” said Miyazaki, speaking at Namco’s Gamers Day in Las Vegas. “However as a director of Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition I cannot answer your question.

“But I want to emphasise my sincere apologies for people who bought the original console [version] that we don’t have any news for them at this point. I’m very sorry!”

Miyazaki did at least shed a bit more light on what the new content will entail.

“The original content will include three to four bosses, three to four areas. The numbers are still tbd. That’s the amount of volume, and there will be a new storyline as well. And also there will be more NPCs, more enemies, and the equipment of NPCs or enemies will be available to wear.”

Given how successful Dark Souls was on PS3 and Xbox 360, it seems unthinkable that Namco wouldn’t seize the opportunity for easy DLC sales. Note that Miyazaki isn’t completely ruling out the possibility; it’s quite likely that we’ll get a contrary announcement at some point in the near future.

Still, for the time being we’ll just have to sit tight and cross our fingers.
