Company of Heroes looks a fantastic game, but its yet another one let down by the meddlesome pc brigade, deleting the swastika flag for the old ww1 imperaial cross, which spoils the authenticity, changes history, and also demeans the memory of the brave men who died in that war. WHY? what does it serve?

    world war 2 cracker..

in reply to confused, yes this does look like a belting game. eagerly waited for by so many heads, and i completely agree with you, these miserable rich tea eating , herbal tea drinking , fraggols are so politicaly correcy they couldnt possibly imagine what strenghth, respect , and remembrance means. T.H.Q are setting the tone , a completely new style of 100 percent realistic as possible gameplay. the swastica is admitedly a dark symbol, BUT its paramount that the game looks, feels, and appears REAL... ITS GOOD TO HEAR MORE NORMAL PEOPLE OUT THERE , INSTEAD OF THE USUAL PRUDISH, MISERABLE, BORN TO BE DIVORCED, BIBLE BASHERS........

when (and maybe where) it will end?

Must agree .... 1st...i am not nazi. But why not swastica? Real symbols used in ww2? It is history. It really was. It was terrible, so terrible, that people want to forgot history and symbols of nazis terror? Iīve seen this "modern" trend of "fogging history" in many of modern games, but as said above - why? The only thing that may happen if symbols will be misplacing is, that generations after us will think, that symbol of nazis was "plus" or some other tottaly not involved symbol. Tell the truth, even if it just the game, its about history.Isnīt it?

There's a difference between showing respect for history and glorifying the excesses of probably the most evil regime in history. The use of the Swastika and other symbols explicitly associated with the Third Reich are banned in Germany, for obvious reasons. I imagine Relic wanted to use a symbol that identified the Axis soldiers as Germans, but didn't want to use a symbol that would cause them to alter whole texture sets for the German release. (One of their biggest markets) As far as I'm concerned, it makes absolutely no difference at all to the spirit of the game.

As for "demeaning the memory of the brave men who died"... I'd be more worried about how their sacrifice has become your entertainment, and you're worried about the historical accuracy of a *symbol*? Did you leave your sense of perspective at home?

I absoluty believe they should put the orginality in these historical games as "confused"
and "Phattdadd" said i mean its a shame to disrespect history, i am upset with the developers who created this game, but its still fun

    Re: PC Screenshots

As this is a multiplayer gamewhich means that someone gets to play the Axis side do you not think that Relic put a great deal of thought into NOT putting the swastika in the graphics. If you are worried about demeaning the lives lost getting rid of these fanatics then lets worry about not letting some prat with no idea of what that symbol means from proclaiming he is a Nazi and won.

Now onto the important stuff... this is a cracking game, much better than any other RTS WW2 game I've played and getting your butt kicked is a reality!

    Swastika Flag

I wish the realism of the war was true at heart in this game, but with out the German swastika flag and the American flag it's like playing something censored and totally childish, I am kind of upset by this annoying rule in recent games by not adding the swastika, I mean medal of honor front line has it, and some other games as well....I know the "swastika" stands for hate and it embodies evil as a symbol , but the game would have authenticity to it if it had it and be a lot more reassuring for more gamers to play it.

The Swastika existed long before the Nazi.

    Re: PC Screenshots

Yes, the swastika existed long before the nazis but they made it what it became, a representation of evil. It is natural that the game developers didn't want to offend or have a special issue of the game for their German customers where, as has been rightly pointed out, the swastika is illegal. To those that mentioned the American flag, it should be pointed out that the Americans were only one of multiple nations who made up the Allies of WW2. Maybe it should be the English, Canadian, Australian, New Zealand, Indian, French, Belgian, Norwegian or one of the other country's flags used. Many of the Allies had been fighting in Europe for almost 2 years before the Americans were forced into the conflict by Japan. Had the Japanese not forced their hand, one would have to wonder if they would have bothered at all, after all, they were making a fortune out of the "European war".

All that aside, it's a damn good game and all credit to the makers for great graphics, great game play and a lot of fun. At the end of the day, it is supposed to be a game - fun, not a history lesson. No war game should be thought of as history or "the real thing", simply because real war is not and never will be fun.

    Enough of Whining

It's beastly as it is. Let me see you find another game where a smooth road can actually make a shallow trench for your troops after bombs explode. This is realistic as it gets. The flag would offend people. What if you were a German. Playing this game and seeing the Swastika flag would represent evil and possible offend them. Relic would get their ass sued from the balls. If you were the maker you wouldn't put it in.

"What if you were a German. Playing this game and seeing the Swastika flag would represent evil and possible offend them."

What do you mean? They are responsible for the war and have to live with it. No one is blaiming todays generation but why the hack they have to change the symbols? it's fogging history, like saying that Hitler wasn't german.
