A patch that'll fix the widescreen problems reported by owners of the PC version of underwater shooter BioShock 2 will be released today.

You'll be able to download the patch from 2am PST, which in good old Blighty time is 10am.

The issue, as reported two weeks ago, is to do with a "last minute bug fix" that caused BioShock 2 to ship for PC without proper support for widescreen monitors - setting the game to a widescreen resolution actually means you'll get a more restricted view of the action.

Fans will remember that the same problem cropped up with the first game.

The patch will fix this issue, "where 16:9 and 16:10 resolutions were letterboxed versions of 4:3 resolutions, thereby properly fixing the FOV by expanding the horizontal player view as intended".

It'll also fix an issue "where holding the M1 button would not register in Multiplayer gameplay".

According to an official post on the 2K Games Cult of Rapture site by 2K community manager Elizabeth Tobey, a bigger patch is currently in the works.

"This patch is small because we focused on getting it out quickly to fix a couple high priority issues the community had," she said, "rather than roll them in to a larger patch that would take longer to reach you. We are working on a larger, more extensive patch now and as testing nears finalization I'll update you on that patch's download date."

Yesterday 2K Games announced details of its post-launch downloadable content plan for BioShock 2, which promises to extend and enhance the single and multiplayer experiences by adding more glimpses into the world of Rapture.
