DarkOrbit, a browser MMO based around spaceships, has made €2 million from selling a number of €1000 virtual items.

The MMO's creator Bigpoint began selling €1000 combat drones called the Zues Drone, which exists to support your spaceship during battle.

The free-to-play game is supported by a micro-transaction model, which Bigpoint expects to make €200 million from, they confirmed to Gamesbrief.

Bigpoint is known primarily for the free-to-play title Battlestar Galactica Online. Earlier in September the firm's chief games officer Philip Reisberger explained his take on the micro-transaction model that has become so popular in free-to-play titles, stating:

"Most people in the Bigpoint universe don't ever pay. But if they want to pay, don't just offer hats – offer them something that will help them."

This differs from most developers who refuse to sell game-changing items.

€1000 could buy enough therapy to prevent gamers buying virtual items in the first place.
