An ending to the Assassin's Creed franchise exists, but Ubisoft has no plans to end its annual money maker anytime soon, Assassin's Creed 4 game director Ashraf Ismail has told Eurogamer.

"We have multiple development teams, then we have the brand team that sits on top and is filled with writers and designers concerned with the series' overall arc," explained Ismail. "So there is an overall arc, and each iteration has its place inside this.

He added: "We have an idea of where the end is, what the end is. But of course Yves [Guillemot, Ubisoft, Ubisoft CEO and chairman] announced we are a yearly title, we ship one game a year. So depending on the setting, depending on what fans want, we've given ourselves room to fit more in this arc. But there is an end."

Assassin's Creed 4 will be released November 1 for Xbox 360, PS3 and Wii U, with PC, PS4 and Xbox One versions to follow. Analysis

We already know that the next Assassin's Creed is in the hands of Jade Raymond's Ubisoft Toronto, and while the franchise continues to sell by the bucket load there's no reason for Ubisoft to bring it to an end.

I think the annual title thing was the worst mistake Ubisoft has made. The quality of the series has steadily decreased starting with Brotherhood.

There was a time when I was giddy with excitement for anything AC and would show up at midnight to get my copy. That ended after Brotherhood. Now, I am hopeful for Black Flag (as the naval bit was the best part of ACIII) but I'm not in the least bit excited about it. I'll certainly be getting a copy but it won't be day one.
