Next Assassin's Creed to feature online multiplayer

Planned for release before April 2011.

Ubisoft has announced that "a new episode of Assassin’s Creed, which will be the first in the series to have an online multiplayer mode," is to be released during its coming financial year - April 1 2010 through March 31 2011.

Joining the new Assassin's Creed in the 2010-11 line-up is the delayed Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell Conviction (April), a new game in the Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon series, Prince of Persia The Forgotten Sands, Driver and Raving Rabbids 4.

Ubisoft also stated that the line-up will be "more focused on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, the consoles which are expected to experience sustained sales growth in games for gamers in calendar 2010".

I also think that co-op is a good way to go.

well as said previously AC3 might be set in WW2 so guns could play a much larger role. However co op sound great.

"a new episode" sounds like DLC to me, but it's odd to add co-op to a wholly single player game, as it's unlikely to be built for it. The time frame is discouraging, because it means only a year and a half will have been allocated to the game, and even ACII was choked by the 2 year interval.
