The two Bohemia Interactive developers arrested while on holiday in Greece have said that their arrest is a "completely absurd misunderstanding".

Speaking about their arrest in a statement provided to VideoGamer.com by Bohemia Interactive, the two developers, who have been named as Ivan Buchta and Martin Pezlar, say that "conditions are tough, but the people we meet treat us fairly and correctly.

"It is all a completely absurd misunderstanding that will certainly be quickly explained," they continued. "We mainly think of you, our families; you have to stay calm and not to worry about us. We hope we will meet soon."

The two men were arrested last Sunday outside a military base on the island of Limnos on suspicion of spying.

In the same statement, Bohemia refuted claims that the men had entered restricted military areas to gather photos and footage to aid in the development of upcoming military shooter Arma 3.

"These insinuations are completely false and without substance," a spokesperson for the developer said.

"These employees - our friends, Ivan Buchta and Martin Pezlar - visited the island as tourists. Their holiday was a product of their interest in the island, triggered by their work on Arma 3 over the past two years of development."

The firm did admit, however, that the pair had recorded a short video in the surrounding area of the international airport, "where in one short part of the video off in the distance some hangars and other buildings of the complex can be seen.

"It's very likely that many tourists may have pictures similar to those taken by Ivan and Martin in their own family albums, without being aware that they put themselves or their families at risk."

Last week, Bohemia said that it "always respects the law and we've never instructed anybody to violate the laws of any country."

The two men, who have not yet been formally charged, are currently awaiting trial.

They were warned they would get arrested on their own forums by a user.

ZERO sympathy from me, idiots.

Unlikely, as previous plane spotters got three years in jail in Greece!

Still, it's fairly stupid to take photos or footage of any military bases anywhere in the world.
