Xbox One pre-orders are currently edging ahead of the PS4 at Amazon.co.uk, with Microsoft's next-generation console holding a 2.3 per cent sales advantage.

So popular have the new platforms proved that they currently sit in first and second place in the PC and Video Games chart on Amazon.co.uk.

Furthermore, Xbox One appears to be building on the popularity of the Xbox 360, with pre-orders up 20 per cent compared to where they were for the last generation console.

"It's not clear yet which of the two will have the edge when they launch later this year – what's certain, though, is that fans are already excited about how the next generation of consoles will change the world of gaming and home entertainment," commented Xavier Garambois, VP of retail at Amazon EU.

Ketu Patel, head of video games at Amazon.co.uk added: "Both the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 are set to have a huge impact, not just in terms of cutting edge games but also as part of the way in which families enjoy home entertainment. It will be fascinating to see how the battle between the two console giants develops over the coming months – the fight for who's going to be the must-have Christmas present is only just beginning."

You can pre-oder the Xbox One for £599 and the PS4 for £599 also. Expect both prices to drop once official pricing is announced by the platform holders, with Amazon only charging you the lowest price.

I think the reasoning is pretty simple.

Go to Amazon.co.uk and look at the right of the page.
Why, there's a big button there to pre-order Xbox One.
There isn't one for PS4.

I'll bet that's the main reason.
Amazon are just pushing the Xbox One harder than the PS4.

As for the pre-orders themselves being up on the Xbox 360, I wouldn't read too much into that either.
After all, the Xbox was hardly the dominant console of the 6th generation and quite a lot of people felt it was better to wait until the PS3.
True enough the 360 sold out at launch, but there weren't really that many units available, especially in Europe.

The only reason I haven't pre-ordered a PS4 yet is because I'm waiting on an official launch price from Sony.

Maybe it takes a certain mentality to pre-order a console before there is a release date or a set price ...or much information.

Shocked by both of those headlines. I thought PS4 would be way ahead what with the gamers reaction and at this point I would of thought MS would be down on 360 preorders however I think I forget that the 360 was an underdog at launch.
