Microsoft has come out all-guns blazing following a minor sales victory over the PS3 in the US for the month of August. According to sales data compiled by NPD Group the Xbox 360 sold 195,000 units in August, bringing the US install base to 10.9 million units. Bar a monumental failure in September the console should reach an install base of 11 million soon.

Madden NFL 09 was the month's biggest seller, moving over one million units on Xbox 360. Microsoft notes that the title helped contribute to Xbox 360's record-breaking software attach rate of 8.0 games per console. Microsoft also highlighted the success of Tiger Woods PGA Tour 09, which in its first five days on the market sold 56,000 units, more than on any other platform.

The success is expected to continue as the holiday season approaches, with Microsoft anticipating a "record-breaking" period for the Xbox 360. It points to a string of blockbuster titles, each expected to sell at least one million units. These include Gears of War 2, Fable II, Guitar Hero World Tour, Rock Band 2, Fallout 3 and Lips.

In addition to its game line-up Microsoft is already seeing the effect of the September 5 Xbox 360 price reductions; sales across all models were up over 100% between September 5 and September 7 and the Arcade was selling at six times its previous rate.

Xbox gamers also have the New Xbox Experience to look forward to this autumn, bringing a fresh new look and a host of new functionality to the console.

yeh, i got all 3, dont play wii, only wen some friends pop round for a beer.
they all want a go of the ps3.
they are wow thats cool, up until i turn on my 360 elite, and show them the stuff it does.
blueray is a fad, hd dvd was better.
download will take over anyway,
both ps3 and 360 has download movies, download games instead of disc shortly so, the bluray dont matter.

there are some cool features on both the big guns.
i`ve owned many systems.

the sad fact is, the system that won the last wars, was the one that everyone got chipped, like ps1 and ps2, i only bought them back then so i could get cheap games.

but now, i play on xbox live!
man its so adivtive, i find the ps3 a pain to us, as its not so user friendly.
am keeping it, am sure there will be some games i want to play some day.

on live, am always chatting to my friends, playing games etc
we all got texas hold em and uno when the livecam came out, so a few of us can chat.

am not calling the ps3.
if i`d never tried live, i`d be happy with psn.
live has become part of my social life!
am a biker, and meet up with other bikers, to go out for the day.
i`d of never met some of these guys.
some of my closest friends are from xbox live.
its not just a games system, live is like facebook, and you can play games on it.
i even went to a friends wedding this year.
and speak to one of my oldest friends who now lives in Oz.
who cares if one is more powerfull than another.
it`s what you do on it that counts!!
WORD!!

A more powerful system doesn't mean it has better games or online. As a gamer, system specs mean nothing to me. My opinion of game systems only depends on the games offered. As fun as it is to memorize and read spec sheets, I'm a gamer to play the games. In my opinion no far no system has done this as well as the 360.

ps3 is the more powerful system that is a fact. People just have opinions of which they like better.

Please ignore the above comment.
I'm a Playstation fan but I have to concede, the 360 is the better gaming platform.
Sony made allot of promises and hasn't followed through.
The 360 is more powerful and it's Live online service is far superior to PSN.
I'm going to be trading-in my PS3 for a 360, getting an Live membership.

How many did you have to pay for? 1 I am guessing. The system has had its problems, but Microsoft has been good about fixing or replacing them. Seems like the problems have been fixed.

I totally agree with Edwin,,had the Wii,,sold that after a month,,just a novelty to me,,too many games trying to use the special controller,,but honestly I can only handle so many baseball, fishing, bowling, sword simulators, and dont even get me started on that systems online capabilities and graphics,,eh it made me want to puke,,as for the PS3 I gave it a little longer, had that about 6 months and again, severely dissappointed,,I actually sold my PS3 so I could use that money for more Xbox 360 games! PS3 online sucked, voice chat cut out in many instances, their online features are dwarfed by what you can do over Live on Xbox 360 and honestly,,I saw nothing on PS3 that looked better than what is available on the Xbox 360 graphics wise. And actually, almost every big exclusive game I wanted has came out on or is coming to the Xbox 360,,its pretty much a no brainer here,Xbox 360 all day every day!

1 more thing for 360 rules yes I had my xbox 360 personally die from 1 update and the error I got said my system had a fault and if I had downloaded a recent update that could have been the cause. It was a fall update 2 years ago and microsoft acknowleged to it and said that about 15 percent of consoles bricked over that update and that they would fix free of charge to go ahead and call it in. They did fix but charged me $50 because I was out of warranty. Every system has its faults do some research before you talk.

oh yeah dont forget that the 360 has the highest software to hardware attachment rate of any game console out there,,thats right,,the average 360 gamer owns 8 games,,that is the highest attachement rate seen since the days of the NES and Genesis,,and it just goes to show that the 360 is all about the games,,the games that we want!

Seriously this whole bashing on another system that you don't have is because you're jealous or you don't have maybe because you can't afford it so it makes you feel better to bash on someone else's fun system. The numbers don't lie and by the way the Wii doesn't really count because it is targeted towards casual gamers and people that have never even played a video game system before. Nintendo is in a completely different market. I also want to note that I have all 3 systems and on the verge of selling my Wii because their are only a handful of good games and to be honest, analyst were right its a fad. I bought it was super excited for 3 months and then bam it hit me this system stinks with all these kiddie games its just there collecting dust. PS3 is great has some good games coming out lots of features including blu-ray, but at the end of the day my Xbox 360 is doing all the work with its abundance of good games and great online play. Yeah it stinks to have to pay 50 bucks and the system is completely unreliable but it doesn't matter because once you have had one you always keep coming back. I have been through 4 of them and it really ticks me off but there is no way I am gonna give it up. Its to great of a system. As for the PS3 and Wii I can't say that about those two and I am not talking out of my a**. Everyone has their personal opinions if you feel xbox, wii, or ps3 suck well than that is your opinion quit hating on everyone else's. This is really getting boring and before you talk go buy all 3 and then see which you like the best guarantee your mind will most likely change. You can't judge the temperature of the water unless you jump in.

360 is lst gen huh? news to me,,360 just outsold the PS3 this past August by a landslide,,,360 has a better current library of games, better online services, and more titles in development,,and still releases games that look better than titles on the other game systems,,for under $200 the 360 is the best deal in gaming!

what system has the most hardware and software problems? THE PS3. How many updates have gone out and crashed ps3, and etc other things. IT has some good games but all the technical problems really kill it. The only problem the 360 has is you might get the red ring of death. Never has an xbox update killed a system. So the clear winner is the 360. all the PS3 owners just need to put their pride aside and accept the fact the 360 is a better system.

the 360 is last gen... all they have is gears of war 2. not even taking ff13 helps cuz its already confirmed to be ported from the ps3 with multiple discs on the 360 with compression and huge loss of quality and many other games will follow. the price is being lowered also cuz microsoft is already working on the next system so its a scam to get more people to buy 360s and then in 2 years or less when the new system release they cease all development and move on. they are threatened by the sales increase on the ps3 and with games like LBP, resistance2, Bioshock updated rerelease, and awesome psn titles this xmas. hell even if carmack is seeing the light now!
