Xbox on track for 'record-breaking holiday'
Points to $199 price point, New Xbox Experience, a leading online service and the best games.
Microsoft has come out all-guns blazing following a minor sales victory over the PS3 in the US for the month of August. According to sales data compiled by NPD Group the Xbox 360 sold 195,000 units in August, bringing the US install base to 10.9 million units. Bar a monumental failure in September the console should reach an install base of 11 million soon.
Madden NFL 09 was the month's biggest seller, moving over one million units on Xbox 360. Microsoft notes that the title helped contribute to Xbox 360's record-breaking software attach rate of 8.0 games per console. Microsoft also highlighted the success of Tiger Woods PGA Tour 09, which in its first five days on the market sold 56,000 units, more than on any other platform.
The success is expected to continue as the holiday season approaches, with Microsoft anticipating a "record-breaking" period for the Xbox 360. It points to a string of blockbuster titles, each expected to sell at least one million units. These include Gears of War 2, Fable II, Guitar Hero World Tour, Rock Band 2, Fallout 3 and Lips.
In addition to its game line-up Microsoft is already seeing the effect of the September 5 Xbox 360 price reductions; sales across all models were up over 100% between September 5 and September 7 and the Arcade was selling at six times its previous rate.
Xbox gamers also have the New Xbox Experience to look forward to this autumn, bringing a fresh new look and a host of new functionality to the console.

they all want a go of the ps3.
they are wow thats cool, up until i turn on my 360 elite, and show them the stuff it does.
blueray is a fad, hd dvd was better.
download will take over anyway,
both ps3 and 360 has download movies, download games instead of disc shortly so, the bluray dont matter.
there are some cool features on both the big guns.
i`ve owned many systems.
the sad fact is, the system that won the last wars, was the one that everyone got chipped, like ps1 and ps2, i only bought them back then so i could get cheap games.
but now, i play on xbox live!
man its so adivtive, i find the ps3 a pain to us, as its not so user friendly.
am keeping it, am sure there will be some games i want to play some day.
on live, am always chatting to my friends, playing games etc
we all got texas hold em and uno when the livecam came out, so a few of us can chat.
am not calling the ps3.
if i`d never tried live, i`d be happy with psn.
live has become part of my social life!
am a biker, and meet up with other bikers, to go out for the day.
i`d of never met some of these guys.
some of my closest friends are from xbox live.
its not just a games system, live is like facebook, and you can play games on it.
i even went to a friends wedding this year.
and speak to one of my oldest friends who now lives in Oz.
who cares if one is more powerfull than another.
it`s what you do on it that counts!!

I'm a Playstation fan but I have to concede, the 360 is the better gaming platform.
Sony made allot of promises and hasn't followed through.
The 360 is more powerful and it's Live online service is far superior to PSN.
I'm going to be trading-in my PS3 for a 360, getting an Live membership.
