Xbox LIVE fifth anniversary celebrations

A free game for everyone and free points to long-time subscribers.

Microsoft has announced details of its Xbox LIVE is 5IVE celebrations, thanking all Xbox LIVE members with a free Xbox LIVE Arcade title and offering those which joined the service at launch 500 MS Points for free.

"As a gesture of thanks to the community, all eight-million members will have the opportunity to download a free Xbox LIVE Arcade game, between 08:01 a.m. on 15th November 15 and 7:59 a.m. on 17th November," said Microsoft in a statement issued yesterday. "In addition to this, every active Gold member who joined the service at launch will receive 500 MS Points for free."

The platform holder also confirmed plans to roll-out the Fall System Update on December 4, offering a host of new features and enhancements. Included in the update will be the launch of Xbox Originals, a new service which will enable consumers to download and own full Xbox titles. These will include Halo, Psychonauts, Crimson Skies: High Road to Revenge and Fable.

Each game will cost 1200 MS Points with more games from the vast Xbox catalogue to be added over the coming year.

"Xbox LIVE truly is the place for hanging out with friends and now they can enjoy full downloadable Xbox games on demand," said Mike Newey, EMEA Group Product Marketing Manager, Microsoft Entertainment and Devices Division.
