Xbox 360 lifespan to be one day longer than PS3's
Microsoft's Shane Kim says the platform holder will continue making Xbox 360 consoles until one day after the lifespan of the PS3.
Speaking over the weekend at the Play conference at the University of California at Berkeley's Haas School of Business, Shane Kim, corporate vice president of Microsoft's games group, gave an update on the state of play for Xbox 360.
He talked heavily about the New Xbox Experience, which is set to launch on November 19, and the hope that it will attract a less hardcore audience through its social network hook. Kim also praised Nintendo for creating new forms of entertainment such as Wii Fit, but most interesting was a comment he made regarding the lifespan of the Xbox 360.
Asked how long Microsoft plans to keep making the Xbox 360, Kim replied: "One day longer than the lifespan of the PlayStation 3".
While this doesn't rule out Microsoft releasing a more powerful console to succeed the Xbox 360, it will reassure Xbox 360 gamers that Microsoft won't be dropping support for its current platform prematurely - something many felt happened with the original Xbox.
