The Wii U Virtual Console will launch in Europe tomorrow, making it possible to purchase and play a host of retro titles on the Wii U GamePad, Nintendo has announced.

The launch library includes Super Mario World, Excitebike, Mario's Super Picross, F-Zero, Ice Climber, Donkey Kong Jr. and Punch-Out!!.

On the way soon are Pac Man, Super Metroid and games from the Mega Man, Street Fighter and Super Mario Bros. series. There's also the promise of GBA and N64 titles to be added in the future.

Each game will support off-TV play on the Wii U GamePad, customisable controls, Miiverse community support and the ability to instantly save progress.

NES games will cost £3.49, with SNES titles costing £5.49. If you've already bought the games on Wii these can be transferred to Wii U to play in Wii Mode at no extra charge, but if you want the Wii U features you'll need to pay 99p for NES games and £1.49 for SNES games.

In addition, Wii U Panorama View, which promises to open a "window to the sights and sounds of some of the world's most exciting destinations," will be released at £1.79 per virtual tour. Launch experiences include a tour of London on a bus and Rio de Janeiro during Carnival. An interactive preview of Panorama View will be offered as a free download.

All this comes as Nintendo rolled out a major Wii U system update.

I bought all the classic games of the NES & SNES already for the orginale consoles and the GBA versions too. I don't wanna pay again for the same games, so now I play them on a emulator. I must say they play like a charm on my iMac.

Good news, although I do hope they will add more games quickly (especially the ones already available on Wii). Classic Nintendo stuff like, super Mario bros and Mario 3 will be out by the end of the year probably, but it may take a while for the less popular games, like my Mega Man 4.
