Wii surges past six million sales in the UK

Is the quickest video game console to reach the milestone in the UK.

Nintendo has announced that according to figures released by sales tracking company Chart Track-GfK, its Wii console has now sold more than six million units in the UK since launch.

The figure has been achieved in less than three years, making the Wii the quickest ever video game console in UK history to reach the milestone. Wii was launched in the UK on December 8, 2006 and officially passed six million UK sales in the week ending November 28, 2009.

"With its inclusive, family friendly and fun nature, we’re very pleased Wii seems to have captured the imagination of over six million families across the UK and reached such a landmark sales figure in such a short space of time," said David Yarnton, General Manager, Nintendo UK. "We'll work even harder to ensure that the interest in Wii stretches over months and years, appealing to people of all ages and gaming experience."
