The Wii 2 (Project Café) controller will feature a front-facing camera, an insider has told Develop. The camera will be used to take images for use in games.

Existing rumours have also been backed up, with confirmation from the insider that the controller for Project Café will include a six-inch touch-screen, possibly with a stylus, and a standard set of buttons.

Considering the new controller sounds a lot like the 3DS, the insider speculates that the handheld could be used as a controller for the new console.

“The functions are the same,” the source said. “It is a standard wireless controller added with a front-facing camera and touch screen. That sounds far too much like a 3DS to me. But I can’t confirm this, Nintendo is being very cautious about the details.”

In an effort to keep details of the console and controller secret, the insider claims that Nintendo isn’t showing the tech to all development partners.

Nintendo will lift the lid on Project Café at E3 early next month.
