Confirms dropped titles are being put out to tender.
A Vivendi Games UK representative has told VideoGamer.com that "everything was going to plan" with the recently dropped Ghostbusters game, and confirmed efforts to put it, along with other dropped titles, out to tender.
Overnight Activision Blizzard confirmed releases for Crash Bandicoot: Mind Over Mutant, The Legend of Spyro: Dawn of the Dragon, The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor and an Ice Age sequel. There were also references to Prototype and an unannounced title.
Mike Griffith, CEO of Activision Publishing said: "We have conducted a thorough review of Vivendi Games' brand portfolio and are retaining those franchises and titles that are a strong fit with our long-term product strategy. We are reviewing our options regarding those titles that we will not be publishing."
Titles absent from its schedule include Ghostbusters: The Video Game, Brutal Legend, 50 Cent: Blood on the Sand, World in Conflict and Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena.
Speaking to VideoGamer.com this morning a representative confirmed: "The only titles that we're currently dealing with are Crash, Spyro, Prototype and this other (unannounced) title." Regarding these titles we were told: "It's business as usual."
However, there is still hope that the dropped games will eventually make it to store shelves. When asked if the titles absent from its release schedule were being put out to tender, we were told: "That's the indication, yeah." That means Activision is trying to find new publishers for the games.
The news regarding Ghostbusters is particularly surprising considering it was planned for release this autumn. Regarding the title the Vivendi rep said: "We haven't seen it for a little while. We had expected things to be progressing. Obviously with this it was being decided right up to the last minute. As far as I know everything was going to plan. We haven't been given any reasoning for it."
We'll bring you more on the future of the dropped games as and when we get it. For now, our thoughts are with the staff at Vivendi Games and the developers of the titles now without a publisher.
