US PS3 sales up 70% in October
Analyst believes success is not a flash in the pan.
Sony has announced that sales of its PS3 console are up 70 per cent in October 2009 when compared to the same period in 2008.
EEDAR analyst Jesse Divnich believes the recent turnaround for the PS3 is just the start of more long-term popularity for the console.
"Many believe a console race is a 100-meter dash, but it's really a marathon," stated Divnich.
"PS3's growth in recent months is a perfect example of how a new low price along with upcoming innovative, exclusive titles such as MAG, Gran Turismo 5 and God of War III, will act as large catalysts for driving the PS3's install base even higher.
"Add in the robust offerings on the PlayStation Network and there's no doubt that PS3's success will continue well throughout 2010, and beyond."
On the subject of PSN, Sony has announced that the service now has over 33 million registered accounts, attracting an average of 5.4 million unique sign-ins per day and 1.4 million daily store visits. PSN generated more revenue in October 2009 than in any other month to date.

back around Cologne there was the whole ps3 ahead in europe no ms ahead in europe by million then not so long ago ms announced they had reached the sales figure which they previously supposed to be ahead of. They talk out of their behind in an attempt to show who has the bigger floaters imo.

Also Karlius this is just America again I don't think Sony overall will win there but can drive enough from Europe and Japan to compensate for this.

If the console doesn't turn over incredible numbers more than 360 then indications will show it won't do over the christmas period. MS sold 500,000 consoles over the weekend last year with total console sales of 2.9 million. I'm sure one of our american readers can comfirm this.
Edit: Just saw the Walmart ad for consoles. 360 Bundle $199 PS3 Bundle $299 in my opinion the PS3 has the best offer! So they may do really well!
Edit miss read the Walmart ad. The 360 is $199 with a $100 walmart gift card making it $99 not too shabby but it's the arcade version and I still prefer the PS3 offer!

But, the only way to guess whether or not the PS3 will close the gap in real time and not console life would be to know when the new consoles will be released. As I said I reckon Sony will give the PS3 a longer life than MS will give the 360 so how that effects sales we will see.
I think the sales push for the 360 came from the release of MW2 in the last 2 weeks and I also don't agree this week is make or break for the PS3 in America. It'll be December and January most likely.
As for the GT5 links; All Age Gaming, never heard of it and the rest were brief previews for TGS which didn't say what you claimed them to say.

The SKU has now settled and the main indication will be next friday the bussiest shopping day of the year in the US and if it doesn't turn over an additional 500k unit on 360 it is higly unlikely that your prediction will ever happen. We will have to see.
I'm not criticising the sales increase i'm purely being realistic and saying it's too early to be complacent with flippant comments that PS3 is now dominating which it clearly isn't.
What we don't know is actual sales. We only know shipments. We only ever know shipments. And when Sony starved the market of PS3 for a month before the SKU release they shipped many to replenish stocks. While sales were obviously higher in those periods the shipments don't equate to sales.
We now see the sales relaxing and shipments being restored to a lower rate but still higher than previously which suggests more demand but it's still not as increased demand as is made out hence the PS3 being outsold by 360 in the biggest market in the world last week.
I also posted links for the GT5 previews and never claimed them to be in depth! I recalled incorrectly about DL Sony film content what is correct but the point of my comment was how other forum members suggested that DL Films was a rubbish idea and had no place but were loving the introduction to the Sony service.
I also said that the Wii will do best with their Black SKU and they are.

I reckon it'll be neck and neck in about 3 years, which is drastically shorter than 6.5 years.

Think you should see my second comment as this clearly relates to you!. (Next While be specific or are you just plucking thoughts out of the air?) Next Friday will make or break the PS3 sales figures in America for this year.
They need to be outselling consistantly at 1/2 to 1 million more per month for any drastic change to the market share and frankly that isn't going to happen to soon! Even at 500k a month sales in advance of 360 it would take over a year to get to the same level.
PB while I agree with your comment that wasn't the angle people were taking in the comments section. Bit of reality was needed. Christ if 360 or PS3 was to out sell the Wii by 100k a month it would take them the best part of 20 years for them to catch the Wii. Just proves how many units they actually shifted.

Basically, any increase in sales for a console is good news, whether it sells more or less than another console. Bigger user base = more profit for developers = more developers on board.

Is there a source for this?

I actually believe the marketing campaign has just arrived for PS3 and they are seeming to get things right finally! Just before Christmas too which to me puts them in with a great chance. But lets not get ahead of ourselves. They need better sales to claw back to get the next Gen lead!
