Variety reports that Universal and Gore Verbinski (Pirates of the Caribbean) have acquired a 2007 Wall Street Journal article focusing on a married man who becomes obsessed with his virtual "Second Life", and will use it as the basis for a film about the online fantasy-role playing world and its impact on the real lives of its inhabitants.
Verbinski is reported to be developing the film with an eye on the director's chair, while Steven Knight (Eastern Promises) will pen the script.
