Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories didn't have the force required to make it to the top of the chart, with Lucasarts' Star Wars: Battlefront II taking the top spot thanks to the game's multi-format release. The game actually entered last week's chart at No.6, but because of the game's staggered release it managed to climb five places to the top the chart. The PlayStation 2 version achieved the second best sales week of any Star Wars game, only beaten by Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith on PS2.
Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories is now the fastest selling PSP game ever, and has also beaten first week sales of Grand Theft Auto 3 on the PlayStation 2. Resident Evil 4 makes a re-entry at No.7 (only No. 7?) thanks the PlayStation 2 release, having made the charts back in March when it was released on the GameCube. Call of Duty 2 on PC (No.9) and The Sims 2 on the multiple platforms (No.10) make up the other new releases in the top ten this week. The PC strategy titles Civilization IV and Age of Empires III just failed to make the top ten and could hardly be separated, debuting at No.11 and No.12 respectively. The only other full price chart entry this week is Crash Tag Team Racing, not quite managing a top twenty position at No.25.
Last week's chart topper Pro Evolution Soccer 5 is still going strong, but falls to No.3 due to the release of two other high profile releases, and FIFA 06 down two places to No.4. Tony Hawk's American Wasteland saw a second week rise in sales of 67% helping it rise up the chart to No.6.
Next week the titles hoping to make an impression in the chart are WWE Smackdown vs. Raw 2006, GUN, The Movies and Mario Superstar Baseball.
