Decision not to release on PS3 is a business one.

ubisoft logo -

Speaking to Kikizo, Splinter Cell: Conviction lead designer Steven Masters has revealed the decision not to release Splinter Cell: Conviction on PS3 has nothing to do with the studio's ability to develop on Sony's console.

"Ubisoft as a company now has a lot of experience with PS3. Our processes, tools, techniques are very well-developed - we could absolutely execute on the PS3 if we had the opportunity, but like I said it was a business decision," said Masters.

Last month Ubisoft confirmed that Splinter Cell: Conviction is a "true Microsoft exclusive title".

"... there are no plans to have Splinter Cell Conviction on other platforms," posted Ubisoft on its forums. "There are several reasons behind this choice. First of all, Splinter Cell games are historically linked with Microsoft platforms. The first Splinter Cell on the original Xbox was one of the first games to fully exploit the console’s technical possibilities. At that time, Microsoft really believed in the game potential and provided strong support to promote it. So, there is a “link of heart” between the franchise and the platform."

If there's no technical reason why Splinter Cell: Conviction can't be made on PS3 do you feel Ubisoft is letting down PS3 owners? Share your thoughts in the comments section below.

Splinter Cell was an enjoyable title on the Playstation since it's release and it's a damn shame to see Conviction as an exclusive Xbox title.

I'll just have to go without and focus on all the great upcoming releases for the PS3.... I do not own an Xbox and there is still nothing out there which will make me want one. I hope all you Xbox owners out there can enjoy it.

Karlius, you listed them.

I prefer Metacritic for my review scores, gives an all round picture of how the game has been received. VGs reviews can be extremely hit and miss.

"retarded"?

Not wanting to get in to a list war but 2009 has been poor for 360 exclusives. As for Uncharted 2 being the only stand out title for the PS3, it's not really suprising considering it's the outstanding title this year. Yes Halo ODST will be the biggest selling game but Halo Dog Turd in a Box would still sell millions.

MAG (Massive Action Game)
The Last Guardian
Uncharted 2
Ratchet & Clank 2
White Knight Chronicles

I'd be suprised if all these made it out before Christmas but if they did Holy *****alls it'll be amazing.

On the 360 front I'll be getting Forza 3 possibly and maybe L4D2 in the bargin bin as long as it isn't Game of the Year "so we'll still charge £40 a year later" Edition.

Magna Carta II
Risen(also on PC)
Section 8 (also on PC)
Raiden IV

Barrel scraping comes to mind with these.

GT 5 has been confirmed for next year so not until April onwards of 2010. When we talk exclusive it's a console exclusive microsoft obviously have a lot of interest in the pc market and playing the games on their windows format is a bonus to them also. So it is a Microsoft Exclusive however Mac users are being catered for these days which makes me smile a little.

Sorry Shatter does look good. Decent. Wasn't trying to get into a PS3 vs 360 argument just the words El Dev spoke were rather retarded to say the least given all the delays on the ps3 with the only stand out game being Uncharted 2.

Left 4 Dead 2 not an exclusive. the main platform is PC!

Like a lot of PS3 owners, if it is on Xbox and PC than I cant really count it as an "Oh dam what an epic exclusive xbox has" Because while i say that I would be playing it on PC.

The xbox version of left 4 dead is a "port" Splinter Cell will probably be a xbox "main" but I will be getting it on my lovely PC :).

Btw you missed Shatter on PSN and that looks EPIC. Also some of those xbox games Raiden? Ill take your word for it lol xD guessing it is a Japanese game, but dont for get GT 5, as that is still possible for this year :).

All i know is, Splinter Cell is a game im in the fence about right now. Ill wait till I see if the PC version gets Dumped down and plays horible etc (Saints row and GTA on PC)

I think El Dev is deluded. Both consoles have ample releases and most of the PS3 exclusive lineup has been "DELAYED" as per usual.

There is little in the way of exclusive titles post christmas on either console.

360 - Pre Christmas
Halo ODST
Forza Motorsport 3
Left 4 Dead 2
Splinter Cell: Conviction
Magna Carta II
Risen
Section 8
Raiden IV

Live -
1 vs. 100
Grand Theft Auto: The Ballad of Gay Tony
Perfect Dark
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles in Time Re-Shelled (Timed Exclusive)

PS3 -
MAG (Massive Action Game)
The Last Guardian
Uncharted 2
Ratchet & Clank 2
White Knight Chronicles

PSN
Fat Princess
Noby Noby Boy
War Devil

And thats all thats going to make the christmas cut. Meaning to me and most others that while the suposed PS3 line up looked awesome the actual line up is rather bland with a haevy reliance on cross platform gaming.

Didn't Ubisoft do Haze which is a Ps3 exclusive?
Most of Ubisofts games are multiplatform

SC Con is the only Ubisoft 360 exclsuive

So sorry I don't see how they are letting down ps3 owners.

And yes I do own a Ps3

This might well be a business decision now I think about it, very little coming out this year on the 360 so this could be a standout title on the platform. While it may only be seen as another game in the strong ps3 line up.

They are letting down the PS3 owners. I'm a ps3 owner, for the note.

This is worse than Valve being lazy to develop for the PS3. Valve has no interest in the PS3 or simply finds it truly difficult to develop for, but Ubisoft, Ubisoft should know better.

I've only ever played the first Splinter Cell on the PC and didn't like it, not too fussed about this. Doubt I'll get it on either console.

I would very much expect this to end up like the first Splinter Cell and I think PS3 users will see a port a few months after. Still I cant wait to get my hands on this once the 360 one it out
