Prepare your virtual wallets for sustained abuse: Steam has launched its 2012 summer sale.

The main draw is the daily deals, with today's hefty bargains featuring Terraria for £1.49, Crusader Kings II for £7.49, Might & Magic Heroes VI for £14.99, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 for £19.99, Shogun 2: Total War for £7.49, Ridge Racer Unbounded for £14.99, Indie Bundle I for £6.99, Legend of Grimrock for £4.79 and Portal 2 for £3.74.

Deals change every day at 18:00 GMT, where the Steam servers will promptly get overloaded and crash for at least half an hour.

As usual, there's a hefty selection of discounted publisher catalogues, too, with highlights including the Valve complete pack for £24.99 and the 2K Collection for £39.99.

This year the sale also includes Flash Deals which change every 8 hours, including a Community Choice selection where Steam users get to vote, from a list of three, on what their next deal is. Right now it's Trine 2 for £2.99.

Valve has also launched Steam Badges to coincide with the sale, adorning user profiles with shiny graphics if they complete certain tasks, such as taking a screenshot or recommending a game. Will Valve have some tricks and surprises in store for those who assemble a fine selection of badges, perhaps?

I'm the same Woffls. My PC just about runs games from a few years ago. Newest one I had on there was Arkham Asylum. The fan goes mad on that one.

Bought Hitman 2 and Rome Total War so far. I still have a 2007ish gaming PC so the selection of games that might be worth me buying is severely limited :(

I'm really looking forward to this Summer Sale but as yet nothing has really caught my eye. The publisher packages are quite good though, I probably would've got the Rockstar one if I didn't already have all the games included. Same with a few others.

The best part of this Summer Sale for me will be the Community Choice options, I think. Today's Daily Deals are quite weak in comparison to what we might see in the following days I reckon.

There's some great deals, I may pick up some indie bundles if priced correctly.
