The Buzz: API launch will open the door to third-parties.
The Guardian reports that the hugely popular music streaming service, Spotify, could end up on your PS3 and Xbox 360.
This week Spotify plans to launch an API that will give third-parties access to everything they need in order to create Spotifiy clients or embed the service inside a variety of devices, including mobile phones, set-top boxes and video game consoles.
"This is the first step towards becoming more of a platform," Spotify co-founder Daniel Ek told the Guardian. "There are lots of services that have APIs, but this is different because it lets anyone build a Spotify client."
According to the Guardian article, Ek mentioned big technology names such as Logitech, Xbox and PlayStation 3.
"If somebody wants to build it into media centre PCs, or if a company wants to integrate Spotify into TV screens, they can… several companies are working on stuff right now – we can't announce anything at the moment, but it's very interesting."
Spotify on PS3 and Xbox 360 sounds like a great idea to us. Share your thoughts in the comments section below.
