Warms against alienating gamers who have grown up with the video game industry.

Warren Spector, creator of System Shock and Deus Ex, has warned that the video game industry must be careful not to throw away its entire history because of possible pressures to create the next big thing - motion controls.

"I think it's kind of weird...that we've sort of said, 'We've got 20, 30 years of people learning how to do this - sitting on their couch and having a good time, and knowing where the buttons are - and we're saying 'You've got to stand up and wave around and gesture,'" said Spector during the 'Lunch With Luminaries' event at GDC 2010.

"We're in the process of throwing away people - kids, adults - who know this stuff," he warned, pointing to possible outside pressures to create the next big thing.

"There's a tendency to want to see seismic shifts, to want to see radical change, and we have to be careful not to throw the baby out with the bathwater," he said.

"I don't know if we want to throw away our entire history because we want to use gestural controls. I hope we keep our perspective a little more rational."

Despite his motion control concerns, Spector is embracing the technology with Epic Mickey on Wii, a title he admitted to "loving" being a part of.

dont count on it, the Wii was only popular because it was sold with the remote. Imagine what would have happened if the wii was sold with a pad and the remote as an extra?

So far the list is about 30 developers long for those currently developing for the move (or whatever its name will be next week) but if they do clock in at about £70 will everyone really be rushing out to get one? Many console people like to play games communaly so that takes it up to £130-£150 for a pair.

Plus picture it, you get in from a night at the pub and fancy a game of something, do you play the active game or fire up the one that needs the pad?

Sensible man. I have a nasty image that console gaming in 3 years time will just be solely based around this motion nonsense.

Viva la controller!
