The first of the DVD-UMD bundles will be available in North America on March 28. While the early double packs aren't new titles, The Grudge, Resident Evil, Underworld, Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon and The Terminator represent a nice mix of films These will be followed by Ghostbusters, Mad Max, The Fifth Element and Snatch bundles on April 25. The bundles will be priced at USD 28.95 which should appeal to PSP owners given that the RRP for many UMD movies is USD 29.99.
"A lot of people have DVD players and also have PSPs, and this way for one price they can get one movie and play it back on both formats," said Sony Pictures Home Entertainment president Benjamin Feingold when speaking to Reuters.
Currently Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has not made an announcement regarding the release of DVD-UMD bundles in Europe.
Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has also announced the wholesale prices for Blu-Ray movies in North America. Older movies have a price of USD 17.95, with new releases commanding the higher price of USD 23.45. No RRP has been set, so it will be down to retailers to determine their own profit margins.
