Sony Computer Entertainment has revealed that registrations for the PlayStation Network have reached approximately 9.8 million. This means that 45% of PlayStation 3 owners have created a PSN account.

PSN has also distributed approximately 86 peta bytes of data, a figure Sony says is equal to 17 million single-layer DVDs - strangely they chose not to use Blu-ray for the analogy.

Back in May Microsoft announced its Xbox LIVE service (Gold and Silver) has 12 million members.

I don't think so, Sony emphasised "Unique" PSN account... I think Sony knows when 1 PS3 has multiple country accounts.
They just don't care because it's a way for us to bypass localization, and country certification.

Remember when Australians were complaining Uncharted Drake's Fortune was region locked from the US store? Sony jumped on Naughty Dog and had it fixed the next day.

I have 3 PSN accounts ~ US/JAP/Euro.. simply because of the dire situation that is the 'PSN Store' here in the UK. Most of my friends have done the same, creating multiple accounts. They are free after all.

I suspect the actual figure for 'active' users playing online is far less.
