Sony Computer Entertainment has announced PlayStation Move as the official name of its PlayStation 3 motion controller.

The PS Move will be released this autumn in a variety of bundles, including a sub $100 set featuring the PS Move motion controller, PlayStation Eye camera and a game.

Games confirmed for release that utilise PS Move include:

- Sports Champions (including combat title Gladiator Duel and table tennis)

- Move Party (showing off augmented reality functionality)

- LittleBigPlanet (cooperative gameplay, with one user interacting with game objects using the PS Move, while another was controlling Sackboy with a Sixaxis)

- EyePet (PS Move appears to take the place of the magic card previously used to interact with EyePet. A holiday 2010 release)

- Motion Fighters (Dual controllers for left and right arm)

Additional accessories available for PS Move:

Sub controller provides additional control to games such as shooters. This will include SOCOM 4. Control camera and cross-hair with the motion controller while controlling the character with the sub controller stick. Gamers will have the option to play the entire game with a standard controller or the PS Move.

A few more titbits from the presentation included promises of latency on par with that experienced with the DualShock 3 and third-party support from virtually every publisher.

Motion gaming is rubbish.

They'll have to pry my regular controller from cold dead hands before I give it up.

I lol'd at kotaku's reasons why this isn't a Wii Mote.

Fewer buttons
No wasted batteries
A smarter controller -Talking how it recognises if you point off screen.
No wire - To the Nunchuck sorry "Playstation Move Sub-Controller" lol.
No off-hand gyro
The colored ball - Aids tracking

So long as we can still use the standard controllers on 360 and PS3 for most games, I can't see a major issue. If games are intentionally crippled, sorry, 'enhanced' for motion controllers, then I shall start to become concerned at the direction of the industry.

Meh, I'm fed up with the concept of motion gaming, or what ever you call it. If people wanted it then surely they'd buy a Wii. And if people don't, because the games aren't what they want, then it should be in Nintendo's best intrest to make games, that people want.
