Online reports say survey asks gamers about the idea.
Sony has this morning refused to comment on rumours that it is considering charging PS3 owners for playing online shooter MAG: Massive Action Game.
Website the Bitbag reported that a recent Sony PlayStation Underground survey, called "Short Survey. Big New Game", carried questions relating to yearly or monthly fees, as well as one time fees for content downloads.
Currently there is no evidence to prove the validity of the report, which a Sony rep pointed out to us when contacted this morning. We also got the obligatory: "We don't comment on rumour and speculation", too.
Gamers have already reacted angrily to the possibility of having to pay to play MAG, due out next year from Zipper Interactive (SOCOM). One of the PS3's advantages over the Xbox 360 is that gaming online and access to PSN is free.
MAG, revealed during Sony's press conference at E3 in July, will facilitate a whopping 256 players online waging battles as 8-person squads.

Then again, I'd be very surprised if this survey referred to MAG in the first place, usually they'd have the business model sorted well before development got underway and would know exactly what they were going to charge in advance if they were undertaking a subscription-based model. Seems very odd to me that they'd wait until now to find out if gamers would actually want to pay to play a game they've already started work on.
So maybe there's another unknown title in the works?

I wouldnt mind paying to play mag, providing it was a one off payment, i spose buying the game. But if it end up like WoW subscription i wont be paying it.
