Sony is investigating a PlayStation 4 error causing some users' save data to be corrupted, the platform holder has told Polygon.

Multiple users have reported issues with error 'CE-34878-0', which is is said to crash the console and corrupt save data. The error does not appear to be linked with any particular title, with players reporting problems while playing NBA 2K14, Battlefield 4, FIFA 14, Killzone: Shadow Fall, Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag and more.

"We are aware of the cases and we appreciate your patience while we investigate," a Sony representative told Polygon.

Sony's official support site states that the error code refers to an application that has crashed and advises players to follow a two step process:

Step 1: Close the application, install the latest system software and game update, and restart the system.
Step 2: If the error occurs again, back up your saved data, and then go to [Settings] > [Initialization] and choose [Initialize PS4].

Not had this error yet, one of my USB ports on the front seems to have stopped working though.

I think I've seen this happen twice. Once on Don't Starve and once on Lego Marvel. Both times power cycling the PS4 seemed to solve the issue.

I had this with Battlefield. I had to play the first level three times before it was willing to save and let me continue.
