Slightly off topic but as you were discussing the tu td system is it just me that doesn't even look to see if I have a thumbs up or down? My opinion is my opinion I don't expect everyone to like it and I expect a few people to disagree with it that to me is what discussion and the forums are all about surely?

It will in time of course. Removing certain aspects of it's functionality will also have aided in the lowering of costs although this would be more seen in the original version. Hence why there have been a so many different models culminating in the launch of the Slim which as it stands now could be more expensive to manufacture per unit as the last versions of the fat models, but as more are produced and the process is refined the cost will eventually be lower.

Nice comment. TU. I still say any SKU released after the first or any proceeding model will be cheaper than the previous. The slim was a cost cutting exercise.

The comment today wasn't really just. It wasn't PR in the article you cited, simply someone saying they had reduced costs on the original model PS3. This article today is from the WSJ about Sony, from what I can see it is quite presumptious as there doesn't appear to be a quote from Sony man saying, "We lose $18 per console."

Also as I pointed out this is a different model with different costs and also we don't see their management reports, I don't think anyone outside the company does to be fair, so to say they are full of crap is a bit of a cheap shot considering the amount of variables that need to be considered.

As the article says, "Precise manufacturing costs aren't known". So to put a lot of stock in the precise $18 figure might be quite a rash move.

That is true... combined with Pachter's nonsense (which also seems to favour the flavour of the weekwith a sugar coating, before going to 'the other side', whichever it is that week) is a load of rhetorical BS.

Although I may be a relatively new member, but guys - don't let the troll fanbois tear the community apart - that is all they exist for. And, as Neon and the guys said in the anniversary podcast, with no commnity, there really is no site. And I joined for the lols (and podcast punishments... ;)). And I like it here, on a British gaming site, dammit!

As you obviously only read threads about said activities. Try broadening your horizons.

MS advertisement sucks equally as much as Sony. Generally hate the stupid he said, she said, we did, you did, bull sh!t that keeps coming from the two companies. It's Sony's turn this week. Come back next week when MS return the favour.

How does this prove anything (I agree sony marketing sucks as the adverts are s*** ect..)but you cant see what The figures for what the ps3 costs to make but just speculation. It could cost 180ish pound to make but then cost money to ship the console ect.... that would add onto the price and eventually make the ps3 a loss leader.
Why in every post i read about you karlius do you cry/whine/complain about people either upsetting you or arguing about how bad the sony are??

As I said then I'll say the same now. I don't care in particular about TD. If the comment I give is just, then I'll say it. If I didn't say it there would be a bland thread with no reason for anyone in disagreement to comment.

However like I said I'm talking directly to a person who writes interesting stuff sometimes on the verge of controversial which is brilliant for discussion. So my beefs not with you lol.

No you misused the system. Spilling a petty argument across all threads. The TD was not contained to one thread and happened over a period of time. That's misuse. Plus I was right.

No, that day you were up to your antics. Calling people twats and fanboys and generally not being very nice. Though in fairness you seem to have cut that behaviour out a good bit now, well done.

A few of my mates won't write on the site. They class a lot of users as non gamers. Feeling they have nothing to offer but a bland conversation. As any gaming comments are responded to with hypocrisy. I'm sure Richard will confirm this. However those people visit the site for the well written reviews and news articles. TU the writers when possible or in agreement.

I however see the best in most and think there are a core set of people here that seems to grow daily with more gamers joining the ranks weekly and not just those that talk a good game. I rip the piss out of Richard sometimes for not playing games. In reality Richard plays a load of games he's not as committed as myself and some of our friends playing to completion but non the less in reality he does follow the scene and plays a lot of games on multi platforms.

TD is a good tool if used well. I remember as a new user El Dev miss used the system and I pointed that out, since then I think we have good banter but I like reading your posts as they're always interesting. At the moment there's two other fanboys "Recon" and "Doomed89" dishing out TD that's right I worked it out lolnot difficult. Doomed however typically only TD in his own thread or one he writes in where as Recon TD anyone who says anything remotely anti Sony without responding. Rickitis this includes your hilarious "Close but no Cigar" comment.

TD for comedy posts or even constructive debate are retarded. If I think something and you think something else raise a point. I and everyone else is interested in valued comments. It enriches the site.

The thumbs system is worth keeping. It works quite well because, as we've seen in this thread, when people are TD'd vindictively the community will stand up for that person and hopefully balance it out. Look at the thumb ratio of a respected member against that of... well... doomed89 and it's obviously working to an extent.

xbox costs peanuts to make so they will always undercut sony for sales.

too bad ps3 is catching up despite this, more people are starting to realise the extra costs they need to put to make the xbox match ps3 and yet it will still never have a blu-ray player.
