Sony doesn't want to be thinking about launching new technology anytime soon, suggesting we won't be seeing the successor to the PlayStation 3 in the near future. For the time being Sony is concentrating its efforts on two things: PS3 and launching PS Vita.

"In terms of when you talk about [the next generation] and when you announce it, it really depends on the health of the existing platform and the other things you have going on," SCE America president and CEO Jack Tretton told IGN. "And right now, we're focused on PlayStation 3, and I've got another platform (PlayStation Vita) to get out the door in seven days, so I don't want to be thinking about trying to launch new technology anytime soon.

"I want to focus all our energy on our console business, which is really just hitting its stride, and Vita, which really deserves a dedicated push from us."

He concluded: "I, quite frankly, would be very distracted if I had to be talking about next generation hardware this year."

VideoGamer.com Analysis

It sounds like we won't be hearing anything about the successor to the PlayStation 3 at E3 this June, but denials followed by reveals are commonplace so we won't rule out some information regarding Sony's next generation plans rearing its head at E3 just yet.

They'll come on stage at E3 in a Delorean and tell everyone they've come back from the future to launch the PS4 early?

Ah, the old reverse-psychology! Do things wrong periodically and then... oh, who are we talking about again? :p (j/k)

I don't believe Tretton for a second.

Tretton's bluffing, Sony must be thinking about hardware that'll compete with the Wii U.

I hope hes being honest. I hate the rush companies have just to be the first with the next thing. For one they dont take time to trouble shoot things so you get all kinds of problems with new tech. More importantly for me when it comes to consoles the PS3 has a lot of life in it i think, so there's no reason to push the PS4 besides to keep Xbox from gettin a jump on them.
