kaz hirai -

Sony Computer Entertainment boss Kaz Hirai has revealed the platform holder is considering introducing a PSN subscription model, offering users premium content and services in addition to the free service currently in operation.

"SCE will further increase sales by offering users new entertainment through the combination of hardware, software, peripheral and PlayStation Network. Especially in the on–line area, we are studying the possibility of introducing a subscription model, offering premium content and services, in addition to the current free services," explained Hirai during today's conference call with investors.

Earlier today a presentation slide, which stated SCE would seek a "new revenue stream from subscription", sparked rumours that Sony would be introducing an Xbox LIVE style sub for online gaming on the PS3. The important thing to note is that Hirai stated subscription-based premium content and services will be offered "in addition" to the current free services.

What kind of content and services would you considering paying a subscription to access on your PS3? Share your thoughts in the comments section below.

It's weird that you're the only one who seems to be having these problems. I can't see any threads on Playstation forums from others who are having that many problems.

Just unlucky?

How many consoles do you have? The firmware has mashed all of them?

Well new Firmware has mashed all my consoles & a subscription would see me done with sony's pathetic attempt to catch xbox whilst ruining what was a good console & service.

Theres the Agency, DC universe, FF14, plus NCsoft were supposed to have a couple of games on ps3 at some point.

Cryptic were looking at possibilities of Star Trek and champions online as well.

Good news then, so were all free to choose. I wonder what premium content? Exclusive DLC perhaps or maybe certain themes etc.
