Sony confirms PS3 Slim - £249.99

Will launch at 299 Euros in the first week of September.

Speaking at its gamescom 2009 press conference Sony Computer Entertainment has officially announced the PS3 Slim.

The new model PS3 is 36 per cent lighter and 33 per cent smaller and will consume around 30 per cent less energy. The console will be available everywhere by the first week of September priced 299 Euros/$299/29,980 yen.

A Sony Computer Entertainment UK rep has confirmed to VideoGamer.com that the price is £249.99 in the UK.

The new price point also applies to the current PS3 model as of now.

It is a wise move by Sony, they haven't played their final card if this price cut doesn't work, meaning they can drop it further if needs be. It may stimulate sales but I don't think demand will be crazy. I may be mistaken, but I don't think so. Even though the 360 has had an increase they can still market it as being nearly £100 cheaper than the PS3.

Yer it is a good looking machine even if it is a bit George Forman looking! Very shine etc. All the machines are good looking this gen though! Depending on how slim the slim is I may get one at Christmas but getting Married a Year June so maybe not lol.

Doubt it, maybe £219 at best.

I still think the launch model looks good and I'm suprised they brought this out so early in the life cycle. But, then again this may be their chance to relaunch it. £250 is a decent price as well, I suspect the retailers will have a few good bundles in time for Christmas.

Yeah they did with the PS1 and PS2. The price might drop even further for the old model on Ebay now, if people are now looking for a PS3

No the PS3 Phat will be on sale as of tomorrow morning for the same price. But going on the xbox pro that is 300 dollers. But 170 pounds? So will the Slim be 200 pound?

254.927 GBP and I think it's 50/50 with 360 in my view. As well as Blu Ray with it and good games coming out this xmas etc.
I think this is a good move by Sony tbh.
