Very true dudester, it's an alternative/additional way of getting movies.

It'll be HD and Sony have previously said they're trying to support downloable 1080p movies as well.

The only issue i have is why it's taken them so long to get it started here when its already been out for years in the US. At least now the PSP has another string to its bow, you can buy movies and TV shows on the go, as well as comic books when the comic reader comes out.

Karlius you don't go from one to flat out to the other?

What I mean is an optical disc is still needed as theres still millions people not on the internet alot of places have worse infrastructure then uk for the tinternet.

That doesn't mean there isn't a place for both in the world.

Lol I love that film. Have a THUMBS UP FOR MY STUPIDITY + EL DEV
Actually this is a big selling point as you can keep the films. I may have some cash at crimbo and the missus loves the eye pet so maybe i'll be getting one for the bedroom. Does it only work on HD TV's or can I link it up to a 19" Monitor until I get a new TV?

You know El Dev I read an article on that ages ago and firmly believed it as gospel until your post. Just proves you shouldn't believe everything you read and I thank you for enlightening me.

Actually some good reading there.

I did not know that, but after typing "sony people are not ready for movie download" in to Google I found this

http://gaming.engadget.com/2007/02/1...movies-on-ps3/

Just before the PS3 was released in Europe.

And this from Sept 2007

http://online.wsj.com/article/SB118885177843416106.html

Interesting reading, Sony released a TV in the US in 2007 that could download content from the web.

Maybe before the PS3 came out when Internet speeds were slower they said that, but they have been gearing up for this move for a long time it appears.

And this from today,

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/so...tive-film-idea

Although I usually want to throw a brick at the screen during Harry Potter movies, some of those actors need to go back to drama school.

From 2005

http://arstechnica.com/old/content/2005/03/4761.ars

An article from 2003 about Sony talking about movie downloads,

I'm not saying its a bad move it's a great move. But what your missing El Dev is that Sony categorically stated at the start of this generation that People are not ready for downloadable movies. They also stated that the best and only way you should watch HD is through their amazing blu ray player. Now their in the sh*t with regards to cash they think it's a great idea.

Love that the service will offer fully download and own of movies. Step in the right direction. My view of a central media device/pc that will control everything in the future via it's massive solid state HDD will happen with a separate removable HDD that you can take a film to a friends house etc. When Bandwidth comes to the high levels it's capable of there will be no need for the HDD just stream all media from a central repository by paying a monthly fee which should be as low as the cost of a current DVD.

That's exactly what it is, not a way for them to create new revenue streams.

It's HD, or SD to be expected. Seeing as the US have it.

Is this Sony admitting that Media is no longer the way to go? Are all you supporters now advocates of that? As previously you mostly all spouted how optical media still had a place?

What gets on my nerves is that the service will be overpriced like all. Also no mention of HD why?
