'Other platforms are going to look very dated' over the next few years.
Writing on his Edge Online blog, SCEA's vice president of product marketing Scott Steinberg has hit out at the opposition, claiming the PS3 will "separate from the herd" over the next few years.
"The brilliance of PS3 is that it's not a dead, dumb terminal like other machines," wrote Steinberg. "We can throw layers of firmware into that box and always be contemporary with technology. We can reflect and respond to how people are using entertainment.
"In the next few years, you're going to start to see us separate from the herd. Some of the other platforms are going to look very dated because their life spans are so much shorter than ours."
The Sony Computer Entertainment America VP also took a swipe at the first-party output of some of its competitors.
"It's a major flaw in some of our competitors that they don't have the development resources to showcase on a global basis the diversity and the creativity of a development team that's a thousand strong.
"What that means is a huge resource of talent that's thinking about ways to showcase the technology, who pride themselves on knowing the technology better than anyone, and eking out every last ounce of creative value."
He concluded: "If you're a competitor I've got bad news for you because we've got some absolute blockbusters that are in the works, some of them new IP, some of them existing IP, that we're building specifically for the PS3."
That's fighting talk, and no doubt music to the ears of PlayStation 3 owners. First-party exclusives scheduled for release on PS3 this year include LittleBigPlanet, MotorStorm: Pacific Rift and Resistance 2. Killzone 2 will follow in February 2009.

The PS3 OS is not dated just different.
With the InGame XMB we can send messages accross games. You are just mad that you have to look forwared to Banjo Kazooie as an exclusive. That is a kids game.

And does he really think MS and Nintendo have no big games coming in the future that won't be on the PS3?

atleast they are looking 10 year ahead instead of 4 or five with 360

PS3 had great exclusives, if you deny, your lacking in knowledge. Il list them now:
RFOM, Motorstorm, Drake, Heavenly sword (short but pretty), MGS4, R&C, LBP, Resistance 2, Killzone 2, and MAG. Yes some are old, some are new, and some not yet released...but there exclusives and not bad ones either. This is Sony's 2nd year and look what they have achieved!
Yes 2 major things announced, 1 a long wait and the other not sure yet, but its the 2nd year and already Home and MAG have been planned and being developed. How long has the other consoles been around that have announced something as big as one of them?
And what else is totally shocking is how many of you refer the PS3 as a cheap bluray player? WTF! If thats the case then the 360 is an expensive DVD player at 229 quid! Iono about the wii playing dvds?? Plz let me kno if they do. But you can buy a cheap dvd player for 30 quid....hmmm do the maths.
Im not bitchin about other consoles i just want gamers to start looking things in a real perspective. Fine slander the PS3, but only if its a valid point, not a slah at how much you cant afford the piece of kit.

My dumb terminal will probably be playing FFXIII this time next year.
Not bad for a dumb terminal.

You'll still be able to get some great cutscenes with the blu-ray disc...this doesn't cost any extra GPU calculation, it's simply displaying pre-rendered CGI content. But, the gameplay...your just fooling yourself if you think it's going to be leaps and bounds better.

Read real close the future wich means that last year and this year and then Micro$oft will have to throw in the towel. If you dont mind what compares to LBP, Resistance,Killzone,Wipeout HD, M.A.G, M.M.O's in the works Motorstorm, and may more we have no games no we have games but we also have haters that love Micro$ofts monopolising ways.
