Rockstar Games is “hard at work on some exciting future projects that will be revealed soon,” Take-Two chairman and CEO Strauss Zelnick said during the publisher’s overnight Q1 earnings call.

Sounds great until you remember the same thing was said three months ago during the year-end financials.

“Rockstar games is, of course, also hard at work and some exciting future projects that will be revealed soon,” said Zelnick back in May.

So how soon is soon? Only Rockstar and Take-Two have the answer and it may not line up all that accurately to what you consider to be soon.

However, Rockstar has certainly been making efforts to bring Red Dead back into the limelight with the release of the hit Xbox 360 game as backwards compatible on Xbox One.

You’d also assume any such Red Dead sequel would follow the GTA 5 formula which has achieved massive sales thanks to the ongoing support of its GTA Online component.

Speaking during the Q1 earnings call Zelnick was full of praise for GTA 5.

“Grand Theft Auto V and Grand Theft Auto Online, once again performed significantly better than we’d anticipated, and continue to generate remarkable results as they have in every quarter since their release,” he said.

“According to new data from the NPD Group, which combines physical sales and full game downloads Grand Theft Auto V was the number two selling game across all platforms in 2015 and is the number three selling game of 2016 year-to-date through June.

“In addition, Grand Theft Auto Online continues to grow with the game delivering record bookings in the first quarter. Rockstar Games has driven sustained engagement and increased recurrent consumer spending by exciting audiences with the ongoing release of a rich array of free additional content.”

He concluded: “The incredible staying power of Grand Theft Auto V and Grand Theft Auto Online nearly three years after their original release, reflects that these titles remain the standard bearers for excellence in our industry and underscores consumer’s tireless passion for this iconic series.”
