Reggie: users will 'get' Vitality Sensor
Says it's hard to understand something when there is no software with which to show it off.

Speaking to Fast Company about the Wii Vitality Sensor, Nintendo of America president and COO Reggie Fils-Aime has said once the software is out there, users will understand what it does.
Fils-Aime said: "And all I can tell you is, with the game developers that we have, we will bring forth an experience that you will say, 'Wow, I get it.'
"Until you have that software, it's tough to understand. If I told you that you would be standing on an oversized bathroom scale, and having fun doing it, you probably would have said, 'Reggie, I don't get it.' And yet here we are with the balance board arguably as the third largest development platform across the globe."
We can't see the Vitality Sensor achieving anything near the success of the Balance Board, but it'll be interesting to see what Nintendo has planned.

If it's used to measure your pulse and implemented in such games as Resident Evil, that would be brilliant, but I think that the extra immersion offered by HD and 5.1 would be very beneficial to the experience. Hopefully it will be compatible with WiiHD in 2011 ;)
