Reggie shoots down talk of Wii 2
Believes there is no current idea that can't be executed on the Wii.
People keep asking and Nintendo keeps insisting it currently has no immediate plans to release a follow-up to the Wii.
Asked by Forbes if we can expect to see any "big innovative jumps" in the future, Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime said such a jump isn't needed at this time.
"We pride ourselves on the big innovative jump, typically in the area of the consumer experience," said Fils-Aime. "The way we approach that innovation, because we have hardware developers working side by side with software developers, is that when the software developer comes forward with an idea that can't be executed on the current platform, that's when we start thinking seriously about the next system. We're not there yet, from a Wii perspective."
Nothing new here then, although the Nintendo of America boss does specify "from a Wii perspective", perhaps hinting that something new in the handheld space is incoming.

No real need yet - the only thing you can do on the other machines is make the graphics look shinyer rather than anything new and innovative.

Most of the dismissals Nintendo have issued in the past pertaining to Wii 2 have been quite vague, but this one seems to give us a proper reason as to why it isn't in the pipeline. With Mario Galaxy and Zelda on the horizon, this is just another year where I don't care what Nintendo do because I know it'll always be worth it in the end.
Could do with some F-Zero action, but whatever.
